Types of Garage Doors
Up and Over garage doors
An Up and Over garage door is one single panel, it will most often have a central handle, which you pull (push) towards you and it should lift up and over, sliding away to lie flat within your garage ceiling.
They are available in a comprehensive range of sizes from a single car width through to the largest double and in a range of colours and finishes. They are suited to most installations and are the most cost effective, reliable and long lived type of garage door. Most often manual doors can be automated.
This type do ‘kick out’ at the bottom so if drive way space is at a premium it might be worth considering a sectional door. We install Hormann and Garador up and over garage doors. They are available as steel, GRP and wood (see below for explanation of different garage door materials)
Sectional Garage Doors
A Sectional garage door is in sections, typically four large sections across its width – these sections are hinged together and run in a track at each side. To open they lift through an arc to lie flat with in your garage ceiling.
They are available in almost any size from a single car width through to the largest double and in a range of colours, textures and finishes. They are suited to most installations, can be manual but are designed to be automatic. We install Hormann sectional insulated garage doors in our opinion these are the cats pyjamas they are reliable, well engineered, long lived and look fab. They are available as steel and wood (see below for explanation of different garage door materials)

Roller garage doors are made from a number of narrow interlocking slats that roll round a motor tube across the top of the door frame. These can be a good option where there are site constraints. We repair all makes of roller door.

Types of Garage Door Materials
Steel
Steel is the most cost effective, life proof and probably the most durable garage door material. It is treated and powder coated to give a long lasting durable finish and is available in a huge array of colours, textures and finishes.
GRP (glass reinforced plastic)
We often get asked for a plastic door as people think they will be lighter in weight, this is not the case as they require a metal chassis. They are available in a range of colours, textures and finishes.
This is the least environmentally friendly garage door material. Any GRP (plastic) doors we remove are reused by local Game Keepers as pheasant shelters as the plastic panel lasts for years.
Wooden garage doors
Wooden doors look fantastic but do require annual maintenance to keep their good looks, they can be durable (if well maintained)and life proof.
